I’ve known Lily since she was 12, about four years. Lily’s family, one of our community families, has no parents. Her father left to start a new family when she was young, and her mother passed away, leaving the eldest sister to take care of whoever she can.
On September 6, Lily was struck by a taxi. Once diagnosed, we learned that she would need surgery to remove a blood clot in the brain, which the family could not afford. The hospital could not even schedule the surgery without a deposit of ₱10,000. The family began raising funds and had managed to come up with 30% of the funds when LYF stepped in and donated ₱5000 more (about $100), helping the family to secure the crucial surgery before more precious time could slip away.
She was admitted for surgery on September 8, and it was a success! I visited her a week or two later, after she had been released from the ICU. She’s made an incredible recovery. I’m grateful that LYF could sponsor her surgery and get it underway as soon as possible.
